Paradox theory has exploded in the last 20 years. Scholars have turned to paradox theory to understand and unpack the nature of competing demands to address individual dilemmas, organizational tensions and societal grand challenges. In this webinar, we explore basic definitions, assumptions and core literature of paradox theory, enabling participants to feel more comfortable reading, understanding and even drawing on these ideas in scholarship. Moreover, we further explore in this webinar the advance of paradox theory withing organizational scholarship. While paradox theory draws on ideas thousands of years old, it has only been in the last 20 years that we have seen an explosive adopting of organizational scholars. We identify features that have advanced the journey of an emerging theory.

About the speaker:
Wendy K. Smith is the Dana J. Johnson Professor of Management and faculty director of the Women’s Leadership Initiative at the Lerner College of Business and Economics, University of Delaware. She earned her PhD in organizational behavior at Harvard Business School.
